Duties: 

• Daily checking of all pens for illness, lameness, injuries in all cattle, making informed and accurate decisions while following established protocol in regard to symptoms observed in cattle
• Assist with the sorting, shipping, receiving and vaccinating of cattle
• Assist with bedding, feedlot maintenance and repairs, irrigation, general yard work and maintenance of equipment as required
• Communicate all observations in regard to pens, cattle and feeding situations to Health Manager or Feedlot Manager
• Operate feed truck to deliver rations as required

Job Description: 

• Knowledge of animal health and animal behavior
• Ability to follow effective, efficient, safe and low-stress cattle handling protocol is required
• Experience pen riding in a feedlot setting would be an asset; general horsemanship is required
• Good computer skills, with experience making daily cattle management data entries
• Attention to detail, with a focus on quality work 
• Ability to follow established processes and make sound decisions when required to do so
• Ability to operate equipment such as tandem truck, tractors, front end loaders, feed trucks and other seasonal farm equipment as required
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills including teamwork, keeping management informed, observing, active listening and remaining calm under pressure are all required
• Reliability, with a high level of accountability for assigned tasks and work
• Strong learning orientation and positive attitude are crucial and required of all employees at KCL
