Job Duties

Duties:

Working from our rural Sturgeon County Production Centre, you are responsible for leading and supporting the production team and managing the day to day operations of the farm.

Providing feedback on the coordination, organization and implementation of work activities for the turf grass production farm, you have thorough knowledge and practice in time management, productivity and employee morale.

Reporting to the General Manager, you are responsible for developing the annual budget, making plans for existing operations and future development of the business, and seeking out innovative techniques striving for continuous quality and efficiency improvements. You have an understanding of, and commitment to, efficient production principles while dedicated to safety, quality and the importance of meeting company service levels.

Seasonal demands vary during the growing season; extended hours are often required with hours decreasing in the off season.

• Lead, coach and develop the farm and production team
• Maintain farm machinery, equipment and inventory
• Hire, manage and train new and existing farm workers
• Enforce safety, environmental and company devised policies and procedures
• Oversee optimal use of assets and labour
• Planning and budgeting
• Interact with employees, management and the public at large
• Manage a group of foreign workers

Experience Required

• College diploma in business or agriculture an asset
• 8-10 years' experience in farming and agriculture
• Strong knowledge of laws that apply to farming operations and safety regulations
• Good understanding of industry practices and standards
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Excellent observation and organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills
• Proven planning and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to think critically
• High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
• Ability to assign and delegate work, answer questions and evaluate results of performance
• Strong people management experience, preferably with both local and international workers
• Possess ethical values and strong integrity
• Ability to build working relations with other managers and owners of adjoining fields
• Creative self- starter with ability to lead and motivate others
• Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
• Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback
• Able to create realistic schedules and meet deadlines under stress and interruptions
• Computer literacy, including some working skills of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook · Basic knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
• Experience predicting labour cost information for overall budgets
• Experience with safe operation of farm machinery
• Knowledge of crop distribution systems
• Mechanical aptitude; some mechanical ability
• Knowledge of turf products an asset
• Bilingual English/Spanish an asset
