Duties: 

List of duties for General Farm Workers.  Each title will have its own list of duties, but duties are not limited to each title.  You will be required to assist with all the duties listed.

MILKER
-Prepare milking parlor, equipment, and bulk tank for harvesting of milk.
-Perform milking performance procedure under the Herdsperson’s direction.
-Clean equipment and facilities after the milking process.
-Perform parlor sanitation process.
-Complete post-milking chores as per schedule.
-Complete maintenance of and tasks within the barn, as requested by the Herd / Barn Supervisor or Herdsperson.
-Assist Herdsperson in heat detection by monitor animals for signs estrus and reporting to the Herdsperson.
-Monitor animals for signs of illness or injury; report all concerns to the Herdsperson.
-Administer treatments and medication to animals under the direction of the Herdsperson
-Administer mastitis tests and conduct milk sampling during milking in accordance with SOP’s and under the guidance of the Herdsperson.
-Monitor, report and assist in calving when necessary.
-Bottle feed calves; report abnormalities and diseases to Herdsperson.
-Vaccinate, tag and delivery first colostrum feeding for new newborn calves, including documentation.
-Remove leftover feed as per SOP.
-Assist with the bedding of the calving pens, housing barns and feedlot.
-Transfer calving cows, heifers, and calves in accordance with Herdsperson’s direction.
-Demonstrate proper animal welfare procedures and standards.
-Adhere to all related standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

CHORE Person
-Prepare milking parlor, equipment, and bulk tank for milk harvesting.
-Clean equipment and facilities before and after milking procedures.
Facilitate movement of groups of milking cows in and out of the parlor; ensure proper sequencing and timing.
-Perform parlor sanitation procedures.
-Clean and fill water troughs; and maintain stall cleanliness during milking.
-Monitor and refill calving pen feed troughs as needed.
-Bottle feed calves; report abnormalities and ailments to the Herdsperson.
-Complete maintenance of and tasks within the barn, as requested by the Milking Supervisor or Herdsperson.
-Assist Herdsperson in heat detection by monitoring animals for signs of estrus and reporting to the Herdsperson.
-Transfer calving cows, heifers, and calves as per Herdsperson’s directives.
-Assist with the bedding of the calving pens, housing barns and feedlot.
-Remove leftover feed as per SOP in all barns and feedlot.
-Vaccinate, tag and delivery first colostrum feeding for new newborn calves; and record data.
-Report any errors, damage, deficiencies to Herdsperson as soon as reasonable possible.
-Demonstrate proper animal welfare procedures and standards.
-Adhere to all related standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

FEEDING TECHNICIAN
-Monitor and report on departmental goals and metrics.
-Regularly evaluate the efficiency of operational procedures according to departmental objectives and apply necessary improvements.
-Monitor daily feed intake by consulting with the assigned morning Milker and adjust as necessary.
-Mix feed per group of cows according to the ration created by the nutritionist.
-Move and distribute feed using a loader and tractor.
-Collect and send monthly feed samples to feed laboratory for analysis.
-Feed cattle according to daily schedule and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
-Input, update and maintain all feed inventories using feeding software and report inventory levels to Herd / Barn Supervisor.
-Consult with Herd / Barn Supervisor and Nutritionist on new ration and ensure new rations are entered in the feeding software.
-Train and oversee others in proper feeding procedures.
-Coordinate feeding with secondary Feeder on days off.
-Maintain silage bunkers faces and silage coverings to company standards.
-Maintain processed hay and straw inventories for feeding.
-Maintain hay and straw storage yards by removing garbage, ensuring proper drainage and filling ruts.
-Monitor all mobile and stationary feeding operation equipment, including roller mills, bins, augers, electric motors, belt drives and VFDs for proper performance.
-Perform routine maintenance and repair of mill equipment.
-Submit requests for repairs and maintenance to Shop Foreman; assist with repairs and maintenance as required.
-Perform routine washing procedures of tractors, loaders and mill equipment.
-Monitor alleyways, roadway, yard drainage, fence lines, and gates and request maintenance as needed.
-Observe yards and report unusual activity such as wild animals or trespassers to the Dairy Manager.
-Ensure fresh bedding application in feedlot with assistance from Dairy staff.
-Demonstrate proper animal welfare procedures and standards.
-Adhere to all relevant standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

As certain job duties overlap each title, you will be required to complete the duties in all job titles.

Applicants must be able to work well with other employees and supervisors. Must be able to perform physical labour including standing for extended periods of time. Knowledge of general equipment maintenance. Must have excellent attention to detail and follow instructions.

Weekend work and shift work is required.
