Farm Machinery Custom Operator

Job Description:

Duties for the position include:

➢Provide agricultural crop services such as plowing, irrigating, cultivating, spraying or harvesting

➢Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations

➢Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed

➢May perform general farm duties

➢Understand potato plant diseases and treatments

➢Maintain and operate the equipment used for road transport and internal transport

➢Operate and maintain field equipment used for tillage, planting and harvesting activities

➢Operate and maintain irrigation equipment used to water the crops

➢Implement and maintain procedures regarding food and farm safety and standard operating procedures

➢Operate and maintain planting equipment for row crops and field crops including the application of liquid fertilizers and chemicals

➢Safely operate a forklift, skidsteer, and excavator

➢Able to operate GPS equipment including guidance and yield monitoring

Requirements:

• Completion of high school or equivalent
• Farming experience and farming knowledge are required
• Experience with operation of various farm equipment
• Willing and able to work long days and irregular hours during planting, harvesting and shipping activities
• Must be able to communicate in the English language
• Training courses or a vocational program is an asset
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Possess problem solving skills
• Work experience in a similar role an asset
• Mechanical ability and good eye-hand coordination
• The strength required to lift heavy machine parts
• The ability to read and understand technical information
• Effective interpersonal skills in meeting the challenges of the workplace
• A valid driver’s license

As this is a farming operation, season overtime hours, including weekends and outside of standard business hours will be required.
