Duties: 
  • Reporting to the General Farm Manager, the Sheep Supervisor  will oversee a flock of up to 2000 Registered and Commercial Rideau Arcott ewes.  Rideau Arcotts lamb 3 times every 24 months and average 2.17 offspring per lambing.

 

  • The successful applicant will be in charge of all aspects of day to day oversight including establishing breeding selection, maintaining bio security and quality assurance programs, establishing and maintaining all herd health protocols, work routines and schedules.  Develop and control feed usage, feed supply and ordering, inventory reporting and pay specific attention to herd health and accuracy of reporting.  Lambing will be staggered on a monthly basis within the flock. 

 

  • The Sheep Manager will be responsible for the set up, adjustment and maintenance of all equipment and machinery in 3 barns, paying particular attention to monitoring daily ventilation, humidity, temperature and environmental requirements according to industry standards.  Overseeing and assisting veterinarians with artificial insemination, embryo collection, embryo transfer and Export shipments according to existing Canadian/International protocols.

 

  • Development of specific feed ingredients for ewes, pregnant ewes, lambs.  Operation of tractors, TMR mixers, skid steers and other farm machinery required to perform daily duties listed above.  Fence building and repair.  Hay planting and harvesting.
Job Description: 

Skills Required:

  • Drivers License
  • Diplomatic social skills capable of managing and working with staff.
  • Several years experience managing all aspects of a large (2,000 plus) group of sheep on a daily basis.
  • Experience operating, servicing and maintaining farm equipment associated with a sheep/lambing operation.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Agricultural Management Diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Sheep shearing, branding, tagging experience.
  • Experience in Reproductive Management of a flock of sheep.
  • Computer skill, excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • English is the language at the work place
