ROLE:
The successful candidate will implement and execute livestock grazing plans and be a hands-on manager of livestock using appropriate low-stress techniques for open range and confined areas, frequently on horseback and also on foot or with vehicles and trailers. This role is also responsible for monitoring animal health, calving support, the application of approved medicines and other health management protocols and ranch infrastructure maintenance. The candidate will participate in the calculation of animal forage consumption, maintaining livestock inventory, health and other work records.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Team player with effective English communication, organization, decision-making and time management skills
Strong horsemanship and livestock roping skills are essential
Relevant knowledge of cattle management (including processing, calving, low stress handling, herd health management)
Physically fit and hold a valid Canadian Drivers License
Working knowledge of machinery and maintenance, electric fencing, farm and shop tools
Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) and skill utilizing data management tools (eg. Herdtrax) would be an asset
COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time position with the salary, health plan and other benefits package to be commensurate with the experience and education of the successful candidate. On-ranch housing and care for working horses will be provided. Candidates must be comfortable living in a rural area and small community setting, but larger centers (including West Edmonton) are within an hour’s drive
